Welcome to the 1rst cosmetics face-off of this Holiday Season ! Today’s contestants, Etude House Proof 10 Jewelry Pencil-Sparkling Gold and Holika Holika Jewel Light Waterproof Eyeliner-18k Gold, will battle it out for the title of best golden eyeliner. Ready ? Let the fight begin !
1rst Round : Packaging
As you can see, the Holika Holika pencil is much more stylish than the Etude House one, which has a more bold and fun aspect (it was part of the 2010 Summer Collection inspired and promoted by 2NE1). Yet Etude House Proof 10 Jewelry Pencil comes in a beautiful dark blue and blue-grey shiny box :
So, let’s call it a DRAW !
2nd Round : Texture
Both pencils are on the creamy side, with Holika Holika Jewel Light Eyeliner being a bit firmer which makes the application more precise. On the other hand, Etude House Proof 10 Jewelry Pencil has a softer tip so it’s easier to smudge. Unfortunately, it also makes it more likely to break.
That’s why the winner is : HOLIKA HOLIKA JEWEL LIGHT EYELINER !
3rd Round : Color
This one really depends on your preferences. Etude House Sparkling Gold is a yellow gold whereas Holika Holika 18k Gold has a golden bronze tone.
Again, it’s a DRAW !
4th Round : Sparkles
Both Etude House Jewelry Pencil and Holika Holika Jewel Light Eyeliner are loaded with gorgeous sparkles. The Holika Holika one might show a bit better due to the darker gold color, but they both shine beautifully 🙂
So, it’s another DRAW !
5th Round : Application
You can use the Holika Holika 18k Gold for thin, precise lines as well as wider lines while the Etude House Sparkling Gold works better for thicker lines and can be easily spread on the whole eyelid. To be honest, Etude House eyeliner is a bit difficult to apply evenly because of its extra-soft texture and the twist-up pencil doesn’t help (the tip breaks/crumbles very easily). And sharpening requires a bit of practice…
Thus, winner : HOLIKA HOLIKA JEWEL LIGHT EYELINER !
6th Round : Waterproof ?
I put my hand under the running tap and not even a single sparkle came off ! Even if you smudge the liners on your skin, once dry they’re truly waterproof. They don’t resist well to tears, though.
It’s a DRAW (again) !
7 th Round : Long-lasting ?
Depends on what you call “long”… Let’s face it, none of them will last all through the day. The color starts to wear off slightly and glitters start to fall under your eyes after about 2-3 hours,
which makes it a DRAW ! (and not a positive one)
8th Round : Removing
This one is clear-cut : it only takes me one swipe to remove Etude House Proof 10 Jewelry Pencil Sparkling Gold while I need at least 3 swipes to get rid of Holika Holika Jewel Light Eyeliner 18K Gold and yet not all the glitters are gone. And I use Baviphat Milk Moisture Lip&Eye Remover, one of the best product against waterproof make-up.
So the winner is ETUDE HOUSE PROOF 10 JEWELRY PENCIL !
9th Round : Price
Both prices are within the same range (Holika Holika Jewel Light Eyeliner = $4.67 / Etude House Proof 10 Jewelry Pencil = $5.54), but the Holika one being a bit cheaper,
the winner is HOLIKA HOLIKA JEWEL LIGHT EYELINER !
Etude House Proof 10 Jewelry Pencil Sparkling Gold and Holika Holika Jewel Light Eyeliner 18K Gold are 2 very similar products, so deciding who’s the best largely depends on your personal tastes. Still, my sensitive eyes can’t stand hard-to-remove eyeliners with glitters falling everywhere around (and inside) my eyes, that’s why the winner of this 1rst cosmetics face-off is…
ETUDE HOUSE PROOF 10 JEWELRY PENCIL SPARKLING GOLD !!
I hope you enjoyed this 1rst face-off and that it helped you decide which gold liner you will buy. Stay tuned for more Korean cosmetics epic fights !
